• OneNote 2016 is PC only. OneNote for web, iOS, Mac, etc. has a new interface and a new unified codebase. They are updating OneNote for PC from “2016” to “for Windows 10” to bring it in line with the other platforms. Because of the shared codebase, this article about the transition gives a nice overview of what features are coming to OneNote in 2019/2020. Here’s another similar article.
• OneNote stores data in OneDrive, and OneDrive is encrypted at rest. More about OneDrive security here. More about security for OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online (which I believe also applies to consumer OneDrive).
